Projects

Commercial

I have worked commercially in IT for over seven years. I have experience of working on my own, in a team and nearly always under a lot of pressure. Below you can see some of the companies I have worked for and some of the projects I have been involved in:

Companies worked for

Projects worked on

  • Sun Launch Project: I was in a team of four, responsible for getting three games produced in four week-long sprints for the re-launch of Sunbingo.co.uk. The games were produced in Actionscript 3.0 using agile methodologies, including scrum, refactoring, test-driven development and continuous integration. The project was delivered on time without any de-scoping.
  • Goldenballs Slot: I was responsible for the production of a bespoke Actionscript 3.0 bonus game and the integration of this game into an already prepared framework. I had to liaise with internal design resources from another department. The project was delivered on time without any de-scoping.
  • Deal Or No Deal Jackpot: I was responsible for writing the server solution jackpot game for this fixed odds game. I had to liaise with a 3rd party and the customer to get the game from requirements stage to test stage.
  • Casino Package: I was responsible for four games in the 26 game package that was released as the Initial Orbis Casino. The project was delivered on time and within budget.
  • BlueSquare Rebrand: I was the main point of contact for the customer team, dealing with bug tracking, releases and standards enforcing. The project was delivered late due to poor analysis. The risks were legacy code and company restructuring. The release procedure was changed during the project to improve version control.

Open Source

I am a firm believer in the value and discipline associated with open source development. It is a developers opportunity to give back to the community they belong. Contributing to open source projects makes you part of the largest collaborative team in the world and will remind you that your source code should be self reading and of a high standard at all times. You can check out my google account here and my Ohloh account here.

CheckstyleAS3

CheckstyleAS3 is a modification of the Adobe Flex SDK compiler. I started the project and am the main developer on it. CheckstyleAS3 is written in Java.

Release Tracker

Release Tracker is a tool to help manage the release of multiple projects, each being comprised of multiple libraries and each needing to be tagged. Release Tracker is written using the Ruby on Rails framework.

Late Night Hacking

Late night hacking is a developers play time. They can stay up until 3am making mad decisions programming technical demos / pranks or just rubbish without worrying about maintenance or ever being able to revisit the project again. This stuff is throw away development! Check out my blog for updates.

smackbook pro

Having seen the potential of the accelerometer and the tilt detector in MacBook Pros and the Youtube video where smacking the MacBook Pro changed virtual desktops I was determined to have a go at this. I used a packaged C application which queried the orientation of the laptop and some shell script along with a Platypus wrapper to create the application. I released it and received several thank you emails.

pies addon

Wanting to investigate Python and being an automation freak lead to me finding pies script. This automates the downloading of television shows from Usenet, using hellanzb, myepisodes.com and newzbin.com. Realising that pies script did not update my myepisodes account I wrote an addon which does that. I have not released this yet.
