It’s my birthday!

by eamonn on Sep.10, 2009, under about me

I am 26 tomorrow! Wow! I cannot believe that I am going to be 26 tomorrow.

There is so much going on, I feel kind of lost! We are organising the wedding, the house and just generally trying to live and are we swamped.

WE NEED A HOLIDAY! haha!

It should be okay soon. A friend is trying to get a cottage to stay in for a couple of nights after the wedding and I think we will sneak in another trip to Ragdale Hall. I wish they did frequent flyer/stayer points! ha ha

wtf is going on?

by eamonn on Sep.08, 2009, under about me

I feel sick! :( I am off work (bored) today with a dodgy stomach! I think I have eaten something that has disagreed with me! I want to do some developing but I cannot concentrate! Arghhh!

I have been sooo busy recently with the wedding plans! I have not really been able to get much else done! I think we are pretty much there now. We have to print place holders, the table plan and the favor labels, then I think that is it! We had a visit to the reception venue last night where we were given the wrong food to taste, again! Scary! We have to go back again now for a fourth tasting! :( Arghhh! It will all be worth it on the day!

It is about that time again…

by eamonn on Aug.22, 2009, under about me, development

Hey ho!

I have been pretty busy getting ready for my lfpug talk next month. It is my first public talk at a user group and I am a little nervous! I am sure a few drinks will help me through it. I have my own page on their site too. Check it out!

I have been reading my Refactoring to Patterns book. After reading through it, Reafactoring and Design Patterns I am longing to work on a new project! Where I can put all of this good reading into use!

I have been pretty busy looking at what is going on in the world too. I am looking for a meaty project to get involved in:

I spoke to a couple of the maintainers of flexcover and they have agreed to add me as a contributor for it. I have a patch to submit but I am struggling with setting up my environment. I need to run my unit tests and build the project before I can commit.

I am also really interested in getting involved with some open social projects. There is a pretty mature AS3 api on google code. I am interested in taking that further and getting a really bullet proof setup! But, I cannot say much incase somebody steals my plans! Muhahahaha!

I am pleased to read that some people are using my pligg oauth integration hack. I am thinking about moving it over to google code. There were a few teething problems with my initial release but i think it is okay now!

And finally, and most importantly! I have been preparing for my wedding. We had a tasting a couple of weeks ago which went well! We now have the suits! And the flower girls outfits! I am having my stag on Friday, so dont expect any updates around then!! The only thing left really is sorting out our new home which seems to be going well!

Where to live?

by eamonn on May.17, 2009, under about me

Heather and I are stuck! We do not know where to live. Greater London is huge and we are so lost. We have looked around Islington, Enfield and Eastcote. Here is what we found:

Islington
-ve : Expensive
-ve : Very busy
+ve : Nice building
+ve : Close to work
+ve : Close to family

Eastcote
-ve : Too far away
-ve : Too expensive considering how far away it is
+ve : Nice building

Stoke Newington
-ve : Expensive
+ve : Close to work
+ve : Close to family
+ve : Really nice building

Arghhhhhhhhhh!!!

We are going to look some more next week so I will post stuff then!

Wedding Photographers

by eamonn on May.12, 2009, under about me

We had our wedding photographers around for dinner. They are really nice people! I would definitely recommend them. They are Hugh Hill and Marta Demartini from http://www.hmdigiart.com/

Their work looks amazing and I cannot wait to see what the pictures are like!  I will be sure to post them here after the wedding!  You should check out the work of Hugh Hill on the url above.  He does some really interesting work with social injustice.  The pictures speak for themselves.

Learning

by eamonn on May.04, 2009, under about me, development

I read this post and it got me thinking.

Learning is probably the most important thing to a developer, it is to me at least. I get a horrible feeling when I am not learning anything. I get bored, frustrated and become a pain to live with. As a developer, if you do not continue learning you will become dusty and will be eventually stuck on a shelf somewhere.

In the last year I have tinkered with Python, Ruby on Rails and Ant. I feel like I have learnt a lot, but I still feel like I am at the edge of a huge iceberg slipping off. I think this is because I haven’t really got into any Actionscript 3D or video programming.

I have decided to freeze the development of Checkstyle AS3 (not that it was going anywhere at the moment) and to freeze the work in Rails in order to pick up on some 3D Actionscript programming. I will be posting updates on what I am doing and will even include some example code (don’t expect it to be bleeding edge!).

As for my life outside of the world of programming, WOW! Not World of Warcraft, WOW! Heather and I are looking for a place to buy for September and the wedding plans are steaming ahead! I will post more info in the next week!

Soul Calibur IV

by eamonn on Aug.07, 2008, under about me

I got this game for my 360 and I have to say it is a little too easy. I completed it first time on Normal. I am now playing through it on hard which is a little more difficult.

The combos in the new game do not feel so fluid. The characters feel slower than they did on the old Dreamcast one. I have only tried the story mode so far which has been a little disappointing. The cut scenes are average and the end cut scene was disappointing.

I will post more once I play it a little more
