Open Source QA

by eamonn on Dec.23, 2007, under development

I never thought there was an onus on QA in open source projects. I was - apparently - wrong.

I am reading an interesting article discussing QA in Open Source projects. It was written by Martin Michlmayr.

It discusses using time based releases instead of feature based releases. It has some interesting points but I would be a little dubious about implementing this for a customer based project. Time based releases could mean down time for customers without any notable benefits. It also means time is spent releasing to a customer where time could be spent developing. I think it may work for projects where the customer takes all responsibility for installation but otherwise it could be a disaster.
There are other sections in the paper describing QA and quality. It is a good read! Have a read!
